Grandmaster “Iron” John Kim founded the first school of Oom Yung Doe in the United States in 1972. Based on traditional Moo Doe (martial arts) teachings, the school of Oom Yung Doe now has facilities and instructors across the country.
According to traditional Moo Doe teachings, there are two types of knowledge: absorbed and copied. Fully understanding the principles of life, such as the difference between right and wrong, is referred to as absorbed knowledge. People who have a complete understanding of right and wrong aren’t swayed by personal opinion or poor judgment, and are able to make balanced decisions. Using absorbed knowledge allows people to better understand themselves, enabling them to continuously improve.
Copied knowledge, on the other hand, is the act of repeating information or ideas without fully grasping their meaning, often leading to poor judgment and poor decision-making. Relying on copied knowledge can mean losing opportunities for self-improvement as well as losing family and friends.
