Dedicated to ending and preventing hunger in Massachusetts, Project Bread organized its first Walk for Hunger in May 1969. The event involved 2,000 individuals who walked nearly 30 miles and raised $26,000 for anti-hunger programs in Boston. Ever since, Project Bread’s Walk for Hunger has taken place on the first Sunday in May.
Since its inception, Project Bread’s walk has funded more than 1 billion meals for those in need. Celebrating more than 50 years, the 2019 edition of the fundraising event also featured a 5K run. The resulting funds will be distributed through partnerships with 425 local anti-hunger organizations.
